Melbourne Vipers recover to win the women’s Volleyball Super League in a five set thriller against the Queensland Pirates

The Melbourne Vipers secured the seventh consecutive Australian Volleyball League title for a Victorian women’s team with a 3-2 victory over the Queensland Pirates on the Gold Coast.

The Vipers, led by Volleyroos skipper Kel Lean, trailed Queensland 0-2 before mounting a fight back to win the next three. Melbourne secured the fifth, 15-12.

It continues an incredible run for Victoria in the women’s Australian Volleyball League, now known as the Super League. The Victorian Uni Blues won the previous six titles.

The Adelaide Storm won the bronze medal in the women’s with a 3-2 victory over the Canberra Heat.

In the men’s the Queensland Pirates defeated the Canberra Heat 3-2 in the gold medal game, with the Melbourne Vipers taking out the bronze with a 3-2 victory over the UTSSU Shield.
