Australian Beach helloworld travel Volleyroos continue GC2018 preparations

As the GC2018 opening ceremony looms in less than 24 hours the Australian mens Beach helloworld travel Volleyroos were preparing for a late night final hit out on the spectacular purpose built competition court under lights at the picturesque Coolangatta.

While most other athletes were tucked up in bed the Aussie men pair of Chris McHugh and Damien Schumann were put through a 10pm training session to help get them ready for conditions for their games opening match on Friday at 9.30pm against Fiji.

Earlier the Aussie women of Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho del Solar also had their final hit out on the match court.

“The court is amazing, They had smoke and flames going off, its its going to pretty spectacular, so when all those seats are filled its going to be really awesome.” said Clancy.

Artacho del Solar agreed it was a worthwhile session to give them the feeling of what to expect on Friday at 3pm for their opening match against Cyprus.

“It felt cool, kind of feels real with the lights on, they were trying the music so it kind of felt a little bit like a game. It was good to get out there and get familiar with the environment, just really looking forward to playing on Friday.”

It was a long day for Queensland born Taliqua Clancy who was given the honour of taking part in the Queen’s Baton relay at 7am from the stadium at Coolangatta.

“I felt very lucky today to run my leg in the baton relay, it was really enjoyable. I had my family here I hadn’t seen them in quite a while so it was really special to have them here with me to get a photo with the baton.”

As competition day draws near each day gets more real for the four Aussies who will make history as the first ever to take part in beach volleyball at a Commonwealth games.
