helloworld travel Volleyroos prepare to upset hosts Canada at Volleyball Nations League

Australia Helloworld Travel Volleyroos are looking to upset another Volleyball Nations League host this weekend.

Canada host Australia (Saturday JUNE 9 at 9am AEST) in Ottawa, hoping to extend their winning streak in the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Nations League to four, after winning all three of their matches in Week 2.

Australia scored their first win of the season, over Bulgaria last week in Sofia, Bulgaria, but still trail Canada in the standings. Their head-to-head count stands tied at 3-3.

Head-to-Head

  • Canada and Australia have both won three of their six encounters at world level major competitions.
  • World level major competitions are: the VNL, Olympic Games, World Championships, World Cup, World League and Grand Champions Cup.
  • Four of those six meetings came at the 2014 World League, when Australia won three fixtures and Canada one.

  • Australia have lost their last six world level major matches against NORCECA sides, since the 3-1 win over Canada at the 2014 World League.
  • Canada

  • Canada won each of their three VNL matches in week 2: 3-1 against Italy, Argentina and Iran.
  • The last time Canada won four successive matches in world level major competition was in 2015-2016, when they won 11 matches in a row at the World Cup and World League.
  • Only once, Canada won at least four consecutive world level major matches by the same score line: in 2015-2016, Canada won five matches in a row in straight sets (World Cup and World League).
  • Stephen Maar is Canada's top scorer in the VNL on 75 points. He scored at least 13 points in each of their three victories in week 2 of playing.
  • Only Italy's Osmany Juantorena (22.39%) has been more efficient in receiving than Jason Derocco (22.12%).

    Australia

  • Australia have won one of their six VNL fixtures, a 3-0 win over Bulgaria on 2 June.
  • Australia have won four points from their last two Nations League matches as they lost 3-2 versus Serbia in their last match. Australia had failed to win any points from their first four fixtures.
  • Lincoln Williams is Australia's top scorer in the VNL on 80 points. No other Australian player has scored more than 39 points.
  • Williams scored 10 of his 80 points from aces. Only Bulgaria's Todor Skrimov (12) has scored more points from serving this VNL campaign.
