The Australian men’s volleyball team will go into camp in Poland on Christmas Day in preparation for the Olympic qualifying tournament which gets underway on 7 January in Jiangmen, China.
The tournament features the top eight teams from the Asian Championships, minus Japan, which automatically qualifies for the Tokyo Olympics as the host country. Pakistan, will also be absent due to its withdrew from the qualifying tournament.
Qatar takes the place of Japan, with Kazakhstan coming in for Pakistan.
The tournament represents the final opportunity for teams in Asia to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics, with only the top team at the end of the qualifying tournament making it through.
Asian champions Iran, the top ranked team, ranked eighth in the world, and Asian silver medalists, Australia, ranked 15th in the world, are the pre-tournament favourites.
Australia takes on Korea in their opening game.
The Volleyroos, who missed qualifying for the Rio Olympics, will assemble in Poland for a training camp on 25 December. They will train there until 31 December before heading to Berlin for two warm-up games against Germany.
They will then fly to China on 3 January.
