The Australian men’s Volleyball team has been defeated 3-0 by Brazil in their opening match of the second round of the World Championships in Italy.
The Volleyroos pushed the Olympic champions in the first two sets and at one stage in the second set the scores were locked at 21 all, before Brazil dominated the third to win 25-21, 25-22, 25-15. Lincoln Williams top scored for Australia with 18 points.
It was Brazil’s fifth win so far in the tournament.
Australian coach Mark Lebedew was disappointed, “I don’t think we played very well. We played at the same level as in the previous week in Bari. For this reason it is disappointing. We still cannot find the proper way to play against the top teams. We made a lot of mistakes. We had a great chance to win 1 or 2 sets.”
Australia’s next game in Round 2 is against Belgium tomorrow.
