COMMONWEALTH GAMES SELECTION PROCESS BEGINS

Volleyball Australia is about to embark on the process to select the Men’s and Women’s Beach Volleyball Teams to compete in the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games in April of next year.

Beach Volleyball is featuring in the Commonwealth Games for the first time, with men’s and women’s teams from 12 Commonwealth nations. Australia as host automatically qualifies one team per gender.

The selection of the Australian teams is expected to be hotly contested, and will be conducted throughout the coming Australian Beach Volleyball season, with international results also playing a significant part of the selection process. Three of the events in the Australian Beach Volleyball Tour are compulsory for teams seeking selection: the NSW Open at Manly on 17-19 November (part of Volleyfest), the South Australian Open at Glenelg on 12-14 January, and the Western Australian Open at Scarborough on 16-18 February. The selected teams will be nominated to Commonwealth Games Australia on 20 February.
