The HelloWorld Travel Volleyroos have made the best possible start to its World Volleyball Championships qualification tournament, beating New Zealand 3-0 at the AIS on Wednesday night.
Led by the experienced Harry Peacock and Travis Passier, and with joint captain Luke Perry directing traffic around the court, the Australians were too strong for their closest neighbours from the start, winning 25-12, 25-18, 25-18.
Australia has to finish in the top two of the five-team Asian qualifiers in Canberra this week, and have games to come against Thailand, Chinese Taipei and Japan.
The Volleyroos have been to every World Championships since 1998, and had their best ever result at the most recent event, making the second round in 2014.
In Wednesday’s earlier game Asian Champions Japan beat Chinese Taipei 3-0.
Australia next take on Thailand on Thursday night.
