PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Volleyball Australia (VA) Junior Men’s Development Program (JMDP) is a national camps and international tours based program for targeted athletes from across Australia. The JMDP includes two streams: Volleyball (indoor) and Beach Volleyball (on sand). Some athletes pursue either Volleyball or Beach Volleyball, while others commit to both.

JMDP Overview

The program continuously produces an experienced pool of international quality players capable of sustaining a professional volleyball career and suitable for selection as a senior Volleyroo. In addition to the identification and development of our future Volleyroos, the JMDP also supports the broader development of volleyball talent across the country. A complimentary purpose of the JMDP is to provide a structured coach development program to grow the coaching talent in Australia.

Athletes and coaches may represent their country on various development tours including the Asian and/or World Under-Age Championships.

The JMDP is underpinned by the VA Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) Centre of Excellence (CoE), the National Beach Volleyball Training Centre in Adelaide, the Australian Beach Volleyball Netowrk (ABVN) and a federation of elite development programs and volleyball academies. The VA AIS CoE provides a full-time, world-class daily training environment for indoor volleyball at the home of our senior Volleyroos. The VA Beach Volleyball CoE provides a fill-time, daily training environment for elite beach volleyball athletes at the National Beach Volleyball Training Centre in Adelaide. The SASI and QAS elite development programs are also fundamental to the success of the JMDP.

JMDP SQUADS

To align with the two-yearly cycle of World Under-Age Championships, the JMDP operates in squads of athletes born across a two year grouping. Beach Volleyball World Championships are held in the even year, while Volleyball World Championships are held in the odd year. Accordingly, the paired age-groups and the under-age category (e.g. Under 21's) are based on the following World Championships age-group; i.e. the 1999-2000 Volleyball age-group is classified as Under 19's; whereas, the Beach Volleyball Under 19's age group is born 1998-1999.
